Applique Cushion Cover

Appliqué is a Western art form where two pieces of fabric are sewn together and embellished with metals, wood, or glass. This craft was introduced to India by Arabian and Middle Eastern traders and has since been widely practiced, particularly in Rajasthan and Odisha. The Marwari communities are renowned for producing the finest Rajasthani appliqué work, which is believed to have been influenced by Egyptian craftsmanship, known for its intricate detailing by both men and women. Additionally, with the migration of refugees from Pakistan to India, the delicate techniques of appliqué, cutwork, and specialized stitching also made their way across the border.
