Baluchari Saree
Baluchari Saree
The Baluchari sari originates from West Bengal, with its name derived from the small village of Baluchar in the Murshidabad district, where this weaving tradition began around 500 years ago.
The weaving process is labor-intensive, requiring skilled artisans to work meticulously on traditional looms using very fine quality of silk. One of the hallmarks of Baluchari is its detailed narratives depicted in the woven motifs. Often inspired by mythological stories, folklore, and the lives of gods and goddesses, the sarees feature intricate pallu designs that tell a story.
This artisanal approach not only preserves the heritage of Baluchari weaving but also supports local economies and communities.
To sustain the craft, promote its beauty and to broaden its audience we tried the same Balucahri weaving with Cotton instead of Silk.
